Adobe Indesign

For my MA Creative Advertising’s Applied Technology module we were set the objective of designing and producing a magazine DPS (double page spread). We were required to use either Quark Express or Indesign and submit, when completed, a hard-copy, the preflight package on CD, references to research and study aids and the compulsory confusing self- assessment form.

Our specification sheet stated that a text of 400 words minimum, typography with at least 5 different type settings and the minimum of 5 images were required to be shown. Particular consideration had to be given to tone of voice which was required to echo throughout the layout and general composition.

…And just because I could I ran up this blog explaining how I used Indesign to produce my DPS.

The blog is set out in a series of step by step posts so you don’t have to trawl through the whole thing in one sitting if you fancy cutting straight to a specific part. It also allows for tea breaks and some leg exercises.

(Baring in mind, I’ve never used Indesign before and actually wasn’t aware it existed, this will probably seem pretty basic.)

I’ll be a little different here and list my bibliography first. Just so you can see what I read before hand and see what sites are really useful for when your mind goes blank. I appreciate it conventionally going last, but in this instance I think its better to have the aids to hand for when you need them.

  • InDesign CS2 for Macintosh and Windows: Visual QuickStart Guide (Sandee Cohen, Peachpit Press, 2005) (other books such as the ‘photoshop’ and ‘html’ in this range are really good as well!)

Should also mention I’m working with Adobe Indesign CS2.
